Obverse description The obverse displays a cream-enamelled outer legend band encircling a black-enamelled field bearing a raised gilt cross, with the four quadrants filled with black enamel. At the centre, a raised circular medallion in relief depicts St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, surrounded by a concentric inscribed border reading 'FOR GALLANTRY'. The overall design closely reproduces the George Cross decoration awarded to Malta.
