Obverse description Draped bust of William IV, Prince of Nassau-Orange, facing right, wearing a military coat with button fastenings and a long curled wig. The circular Latin legend runs around the raised rim, with engraver's initials visible at the lower left of the field. A suspension loop is fitted at the top.

Reverse description The rampant Dutch lion, holding an upraised sword in its right paw, rests its left forepaw on a pedestal inscribed with the Garter motto HONY SOIT QVI MALY PENSE and decorated with orange branches bearing fruit. A sunburst with a cannon ball appears to the lower left. The circular Latin legend runs around the rim, with a rectangular exergue below bearing the proclamation inscription and date. A suspension loop is fitted at the top.
