| Obverse description | High-relief laureate bust of Kaiser Wilhelm I facing right, superimposed over a spread-winged eagle in the central field. Surrounding the bust in a radial arrangement are elongated cartouches bearing the names of Franco-Prussian War battle sites, while the outer legend names the principal German commanders. Dates 18 JULI 1870 and 10 MAI 1871 appear in the lower exergue, with the engravers' signatures at the very bottom. |
