Reverse description A tall fluted victory column surmounted by an imperial crown occupies the center of the field, with laurel wreaths at its base and a profusion of captured military trophies — cannons, flags, drums, and weapons — arranged at the foot. Radiating outward from the column are the names and dates of major battles of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871, filling the entire field. The encircling legend at the top dedicates the medal to the victorious German army, with the years 1870 and 1871 flanking the column at the base.
