Reverse lettering WESTMINSTER ABBEY WAS FOUNDED BY SEBERT KING OF THE EAST SAXONS ABOUT 610 & WAS DESTROYED BY THE DANES IN THE TIME OF ALFRED IT WAS REBUILT & ESTABLISHED A BENEDICTINE PRIORY BY EDGAR IN 958 BY EDWD THE CONFESSOR IN 1063 & BY HENRY III & SUBSEQUENT KINGS UNTIL ITS COMPLETION BY THE ADDITION OF THE SPLENDID CHAPEL OF HENRY VII THE MONASTERY WAS SURRENDERED TO HENRY VIII WHO FIRST CONVERTED IT INTO A COLLEGE OF SECULAR CANONS BUT AFTERWARDS ESTABLISHED A BISHOPRIC AND MADE THE ABBEY CHURCH THE CATHEDRAL OF THE DIOCESS EDWARD VI RESTORED THE COLLEGE WHICH WAS AGAIN CONVERTED BY MARY TO ITS ORIGINAL APPROPRIATION OF AN ABBEY AND ELIZABETH FINALLY DISSOLVED THAT INSTITUTION AND REESTABLISHED IT AS A COLLEGIATE CHURCH
