The legend curves around the upper portion of the field, with the place names BLOEMFONTEIN and PRETORIA flanking the effigy, BOER WAR inscribed to the lower left, and the dates 1899 / 1900 along the lower exergue, with the maker's name SPINK & SON inscribed below.
