Obverse description In the lower field, a craftsman is depicted in high relief working at a bench with hammer and tools. Above him, emerging from clouds, stand three allegorical female figures in classical robes, representing Plenty (scattering coins), Victory (holding a laurel wreath), and Fame (bearing a trumpet). The composition fills the entire field with no legend.

Reverse description Two putti in high relief stand as supporters on either side of a central oval shield bearing the date 1869 and the motto LABOUR IS LIFE. The shield is surmounted by ornate scrollwork. Surrounding legends arranged around the border read SOUTH LONDON WORKING CLASSES INDUSTRIAL in the upper portion and THIRD EXHIBITION at the base.
