| Obverse description | The central field features two facing portrait busts in high relief set within a Gothic architectural cartouche: King Richard I (crowned, in profile facing right, labelled RICHARD I. 1189) and Queen Victoria (crowned and veiled, in profile facing left, labelled VICTORIA 1889), vis-à-vis with a decorative candelabrum between them. A lower roundel depicts a mounted St George slaying the dragon, while an upper Gothic rose window ornament surmounts the composition. The outer legend in Fraktur blackletter script runs around the border, with the Roman numeral date MDCCCLXXXIX at the base. |
