Obverse description Central view in relief of the Edinburgh International Exhibition building with flanking trees and a hot air balloon in the upper field. A legend curves around the upper border reading INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF INDUSTRY SCIENCE AND ART, with the inscription UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF HER MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY THE QUEEN appearing below the building, and EDINBURGH 1886 at the base. The border is decorated with a foliate ornamental band.
