Obverse description Two conjoined portrait busts of Queen Victoria facing one another within ornate cartouches: at left, a young Victoria as at her accession (1837), bare-headed with ringlets; at right, the elderly Queen (1887) wearing a crown and veil. A royal crown surmounts the junction of the two frames, flanked by maple leaf sprays. The jubilee dates 1837 and 1887 appear in the lower field of their respective cartouches, and the legend VICTORIA . REGINA is inscribed on a scroll in the lower exergue.
