Obverse description The field depicts a detailed view of the entrance to the Glasgow Railway Station and tunnel, showing the ornate Neo-classical facade with a large arched tunnel entrance, flanked by colonnaded wings. To the left stands the Scott Monument column, and to the right a seated sculptural figure on a plinth; small figures of pedestrians and a steam locomotive are visible in the foreground. The upper legend arcs around the scene and a publisher's inscription appears in the lower exergue.

Reverse description The field depicts a sweeping panoramic view of the great viaduct spanning the Valley of the River Almond near Edinburgh, rendered in fine relief with numerous arched piers, a steam train visible on the deck, and a rocky river valley with vegetation in the foreground, mountains visible in the distance. The upper legend arcs around the scene, and a four-line commemorative inscription occupies the lower portion of the field below a dividing line.
