Obverse description Diademed and veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing left, wearing a crown and elaborate jewelled dress, in low relief within a recessed field. The circular legend reads VICTORIA REGINA around the upper periphery, with the regnal dates 1837-1897 along the lower portion. A suspension hole is pierced at the top of the medal.

Reverse description The reverse bears entirely text in relief within a plain border. The curved legend VICTORIA REG. ET IMP. runs along the upper periphery, with six lines of inscription filling the field: BORN 1819 / CROWNED 1838 / MARRIED 1840 / SIXTIETH YEAR / 1897, separated by a horizontal rule from the advertising legend PRESENTED BY / SIMPSON & CO. / TAILORS & OUTFITTERS / WEST & FIELD STREETS / DURBAN. A suspension hole is pierced at the top.
