Reverse description The upper field depicts a large steam-liner underway on a choppy sea, with a lighthouse visible to the right and a smaller vessel in the middle distance. Below a dividing line, the lower section features a central circular cartouche enclosing a locomotive with the dates 1837 and 1897 flanking it, flanked on each side by a terrestrial globe with caduceus ornaments, and the maker's name SPINK & SON to the left and LONDON to the right. The legend BRITISH COMMERCE arcs around the lower cartouche.
