Reverse description An allegorical scene in high relief depicting India seated at left, wearing traditional dress and jewellery, attended by Britannia standing in armour and holding a trident. A central child figure presents a steam locomotive model, flanked by four allegorical female figures representing parts of the Empire, one of whom holds a cog wheel. An Indian temple and palm trees appear in the background. The legend CALCUTTA arcs above, INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION / 1883-84 appears in the exergue, and the engravers' signature J.S. & A.B. WYON is inscribed along the lower field.
