| Obverse description | The obverse features a large medallion portrait bust of Ferdinand Magellan in high relief within a circular frame in the upper field, depicting him bearded and wearing a ruffled collar. Below and surrounding the portrait, a detailed battle scene in lower relief depicts Magellan brandishing a sword against indigenous warriors armed with spears and bows, with additional armored soldiers visible in the background, representing the fatal Battle of Mactan (1521). The engraver's initials are visible in the lower left field. |
