Obverse description A standing allegorical figure of Liberty in high relief, arms outstretched, places laurel wreaths upon two flanking allegorical groups: to the left, a seated female figure representing Industry works at a mechanical wheel with a hammer; to the right, two female figures representing Art are depicted with a shield bearing stars and stripes and an artist's palette. The date 1876 appears in the exergue, with a circular border legend around the field.
