Obverse description Central field bears the crowned royal cipher of Haakon VII, consisting of the interlaced monogram 'H7' superimposed on a large 'V' in high relief. The royal crown surmounts the cipher. The legend 'ALT FOR NORGE' curves along the lower rim within a raised border ring.

Reverse description A detailed relief view of the Royal Palace (Slottet) in Oslo occupies the central field, with the Norwegian flag raised above the central pediment. The date '7 JUNI 1945' arcs along the upper legend within the border ring, and a four-line inscription in the lower field records the return of the royal family. The engraver's name 'H. RUI' appears in small lettering below the palace facade.
