Reverse description Black enamelled field bearing a gold oak-leaf wreath encircling a bilingual inscription in Dutch and French. At the top of the wreath, the Belgian lion rampant is depicted in relief; at the bottom, an acorn and decorative motif complete the wreath. The inscription identifies the subject as Jan van Ruusbroec, mystic prose writer and first prior of the monastery of Groenendael, circa 1360.
