Obverse description A crowned double-headed imperial eagle in flight occupies the upper field, with rays of light emanating from the upper right. Below, a detailed panoramic view of the city of Emden with its skyline and harbour, with multiple sailing vessels on the water in the foreground. In the lower exergue, the crowned arms of Emden flanked by the divided inscription, with palm branches to either side.

Reverse description The reverse features a central multi-line Dutch verse inscription in relief within the flat field, headed by the initials 'CC' within a small wreath at the top.
