Reverse description The reverse displays the name KANSAS prominently in the central field, beneath a circular medallion depicting the state flower (sunflower) surrounded by stars and the legend SUNFLOWER. Below, the inscriptions ATTAINED STATEHOOD and JANUARY 29, 1861 appear in the field, flanked by two laurel branches. A scroll at the base bears the legend 34TH STATE, and the Franklin Mint mintmark FM appears at the bottom edge.
