Below, the state name ALASKA is inscribed in large relief letters within the field, flanked on both sides by laurel branches. The inscriptions ATTAINED STATEHOOD JANUARY 3, 1959 appear in the central field, with 49TH STATE on a scroll at the base, and the Franklin Mint initials FM struck at the lower rim. |
