Obverse description A standing female allegorical figure in classical robes occupies the central field, backed by a tall Palmetto tree. The dates 1670 and 1970 appear in the field to either side of the figure. At the base, two circular medallions bearing heraldic coat-of-arms devices flank the figure. The circular legend reads SOUTH CAROLINA TRICENTENNIAL around the rim.
