Obverse description The brass center features a detailed high-relief depiction of the brig Mercury under full sail, navigating rough seas with billowing clouds in the background. The copper-nickel ring is finished in black and bears the Cyrillic legend at the top and the Latin legend at the bottom, flanked on each side by decorative rope-knot motifs in relief.

Reverse description The brass center features an elaborate compass rose in high relief with cardinal and intercardinal points labeled, surrounding a central globe with meridian and parallel lines. A graduated degree scale ring encircles the compass rose. The black copper-nickel outer ring bears the Cyrillic legend at the top and the Latin legend at the bottom, with the Saint Petersburg Mint mark (СПМД) positioned at the right.
