Obverse description Left-facing helmeted bust of Emperor Alexander I portrayed as the Slavic god Rodomysl, holding a spear over his right shoulder and an ornately decorated shield bearing a battle scene in high relief. The Cyrillic legend arcs along the upper rim of the field.

Reverse description A seated, classically draped female personification of Russia faces left, holding a sceptre and extending swords toward three standing male figures in ancient dress; a large shield bearing the Russian imperial double-headed eagle rests at her side. A battle scene is rendered in low relief along the base. The upper legend arcs around the rim, while the inscription crediting Count Tolstoy's medallion and the engraver A. Lyalin, together with the date 1834, appear in the exergue.
