Obverse description Left-facing veiled and crowned bust of Queen Victoria in high relief, depicting the so-called 'Old Head' effigy, wearing a pearl necklace and earring. The circumferential legend is separated from the central effigy by a beaded border, with a suspension hole pierced at the top of the flan.

Reverse description The Rochdale coat of arms at centre, featuring a quartered shield surmounted by a crest of a ram, with supporters on either side and a scroll below bearing the motto 'CREDE SIGNO'. The shield is set within three interlocking circular arcs whose borders carry the commemorative legend, flanked by the names of the donor on the left and right. The dates 1837-1897 appear at the base of the central design, with maker's initials and 'ROCHDALE' below.
