Obverse description The obverse features a bust effigy of Emperor Peter I the Great in the upper central field, set within a decorative shaped cartouche against a mirror-polished background. Below the bust, a detailed relief depiction of a sailing warship commemorates the Battle of Gangut (1714), the first major Russian naval victory of the Northern War. Legends in Cyrillic script appear to the left and right of the central composition, with a pair of crossed cannons rendered in low relief at the base.
