Obverse description High-relief uniformed bust of General Otto von Emmich facing left, wearing a military tunic with epaulettes and decorations including an Iron Cross at the collar. The legend arcs around the left and right fields reading GENERAL and V. EMMICH respectively. The engraver's signature is visible in small lettering at the lower right of the field.

Reverse description A fully armoured medieval knight on horseback, advancing to the left with sword extended in his right hand and an eagle-emblazoned shield on his left arm, the horse in a prancing pose. The date 1914 appears in the upper right field, and the patriotic motto GOTT MIT UNS! is inscribed in bold raised lettering along the lower exergue.
