Obverse description Depicted is the Order of the Patriotic War, an order of the USSR established by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on May 20, 1942. The Order of the Patriotic War was the first Soviet award of the Great Patriotic War. It was also the first Soviet order to be divided into degrees. One of the few Soviet orders that was passed on to the family as a keepsake after the death of the recipient.
