Reverse description The reverse bears a 15-line commemorative inscription in the field, recording the date 24 May 1865 and the reign of Vittorio Emanuele II, crediting the Compagnia delle Strade Ferrate Meridionali for the opening of the Brindisi line, and listing the progressive extension of the railway network from Susa to Brindisi with dates for each major station reached. The text is arranged in centred lines within a plain raised border, with a small ornamental device below the final line.
