Aversbeschreibung The center depicts the Tsar Cannon (1586), a legendary artillery piece cast by master craftsman Andrei Chokhov. It is one of the largest cannons in the world, weighing over 39 tons and with a caliber of 890 mm. It was never used in combat and is housed within the Kremlin. In the background is the Church of the Twelve Apostles, an architectural monument of the Moscow Kremlin, built in the 16th and 17th centuries. It served as the house church of the Moscow patriarchs and is part of the Patriarchal Palace complex. The medal also contains inscriptions.

Ivan Kalita (1288–1340)—the Grand Duke of Moscow, who laid the foundations of Moscow`s political and economic power and united the Russian lands around the principality. On the right is a reference to: Dmitry Donskoy (1350–1389)—the victor of the Battle of Kulikovo (1380), who strengthened Moscow`s authority and weakened the power of the Golden Horde.
