| Obverse description | A draped, winged female figure (allegorical Victory or Fame) striding to the right, extending a laurel wreath in her right hand and holding a long trumpet or blunderbuss behind her with her left hand. Surrounding her feet is a wide array of objects symbolising industry and the arts, including a lyre, a pestle and mortar, laboratory glassware, a locomotive, a beehive, a telescope on a stand, and an anvil. The engraver's signature J.A. RESTALL BIRM. appears in the lower exergue. |
