Obverse description A draped, winged female figure (allegorical Victory or Fame) striding to the right, extending a laurel wreath in her right hand and holding a long trumpet or blunderbuss behind her with her left hand. Surrounding her feet is a wide array of objects symbolising industry and the arts, including a lyre, a pestle and mortar, laboratory glassware, a locomotive, a beehive, a telescope on a stand, and an anvil. The engraver's signature J.A. RESTALL BIRM. appears in the lower exergue.

Reverse description A large laurel wreath encircles the central field, tied at the base, with a heraldic shield at the top bearing a deer and foliage. Within the wreath the inscription AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE OF EXHIBIT is arranged across five lines in relief lettering, and the date 1891 appears below the wreath in the exergue. The circular outer legend MIDLAND COUNTIES INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION runs around the full periphery.
