Reverse description The reverse presents the arms of the State of Maine in the central field, superimposed over a lakeside mountain landscape with radiating sunrays above the peaks. The dates 1820 and 1970 flank the coat of arms at either side, with two pine branches curving beneath. The legend SESQUICENTENNIAL arcs along the upper inner field, MAINE appears in bold relief below the arms, and the entire design is enclosed within a border of raised five-pointed stars.
