| Obverse description | High-relief bust of Mahatma Gandhi facing right, wearing his characteristic simple garment and round wire-framed spectacles, occupying the central field. The circumferential legend reads MOHANDAS KARAMCHAND GANDHI in a stylised script arching around the upper field, with the dates 1869 and 1948 in the lower field flanked by small floral ornaments. The central device is surmounted by a flaming urn flanked by two rampant animals, all set within an ornate foliate and fruiting border incorporating scrolls, exotic plants, and pendant fruits. Banners inscribed MAHATMA and BAPU appear on either side of the elephants. A circumferential legend in Portuguese runs around the lower three-quarters of the field. |
