| Obverse description | High-relief bust of Ljudevit Gaj facing slightly left, wearing a traditional embroidered coat with a decorative floral clasp at the chest. The legend MATICA HRVATSKA curves along the upper rim, the date 1842 appears at the bottom, and the identification LJ. GAJ is inscribed in the field to the right of the effigy. An engraver's monogram and the year 1962 are visible in the lower left field. |
