Obverse description Central field depicts a draped funerary urn atop a rectangular altar or pedestal, with a wreath draped over it. To the left, a sword entwined with a laurel branch; to the right, a palm branch. The Latin legend arcs around the upper portion of the field.

Obverse lettering DULCE ET DECORUM PRO PATRIA MORI
Reverse description The entire reverse field is occupied by a fourteen-line Latin inscription in relief, recording the names of the members of the provisional government of Belgium and commemorating the laying of the foundation stone of the monument to the martyrs of liberty on 4 December 1830, separated by a horizontal rule from a final two-line attribution to the administrator J. Plaisant.
