Obverse description Central shield bearing a caduceus in relief, flanked by sugarcane stalks on the left and a palm tree on the right, all within an elaborate heraldic composition. A ribbon scroll above the shield bears the legend L'UNION MAURICIENNE, while a lower scroll carries the motto VIS UNITA FORTIOR. The engraver's signature BORREL and the date 1863 appear in the exergue.
