Obverse description An allegorical female figure representing Marianne, the French Republic, is depicted seated and draped, her right arm raised and extended toward the upper right field, beside a standing uniformed infantryman who rests his hands upon the muzzle of his upright rifle. In the middle ground to the right, a group of charging soldiers is rendered in low relief, with a cannon barrel visible in the lower right field. The engraver's signature PGRANDHOMME appears in small relief at the lower right.
