Obverse description The obverse depicts a dramatic high-relief naval battle scene showing the USS Constitution engaging the British frigate Guerrière amid cannon smoke and churning seas, with both ships' rigging and masts rendered in fine detail. The circumferential legend reads THE "CONSTITUTION" DEFEATS THE "GUERRIÈRE" arching around the upper field, with two five-pointed stars flanking the date AUG. 19, 1812 in the lower exergue. The design is set within a plain raised rim with a mirror-polished field contrasting the frosted relief.
