Obverse description The gold-colored inner ring depicts a detailed relief view of Himeji Castle with its multi-tiered roofs and surrounding stone walls, set against a circular field. The legend "HIMEJI CASTLE" appears in the lower exergue in Latin script, while Japanese characters naming the castle and its UNESCO World Heritage status are inscribed in the upper left field. Two small bird motifs are visible at the top of the silver-toned outer ring.

Reverse description The gold-colored inner ring features a stylized butterfly in high relief, representing the mon (family crest) of Daimyo Ikeda Terumasa (1565–1613), a motif found on the roof tiles of Himeji Castle. The curved legend in Japanese script runs along the lower portion of the inner field. The outer ring is plain silver-toned metal.
