Reverse description The Illinois State Seal depicted in high relief: a bald eagle with wings spread perches atop a rock, holding in its beak a ribbon inscribed STATE SOVEREIGNTY NATIONAL UNION, and clutching a shield and an olive branch in its talons. Radiating sunbeams appear in the right field. The circumferential legend SEAL OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS and the date AUG. 26TH 1818 surround the central device, separated by stars, with a dotted inner border. The Franklin Mint mark FM appears in the lower field.
