Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of Moscow at center — a red shield with Saint George on horseback slaying a dragon — above which the legend МОСКВА appears in raised lettering. Surrounding the central device is a ring of ten colorful enameled city coats of arms, each set against red, blue, or white backgrounds and depicting various heraldic devices including a bear, a deer, lions, a bird, a Viking ship, and human figures. The background field is engraved with stylized architectural silhouettes of historic Russian cities.

A circular bilingual legend surrounds the entire design, reading in Cyrillic and Latin script along the rim.
