Obverse description A double-headed Janus effigy in high relief dominates the field, depicting a youthful face in profile facing right overlapping a bearded elder face facing left, symbolizing the looking forward and backward in time. Surrounding the busts in the field are allegorical emblems including a celestial globe, telescope, stacked books, a wagon wheel amid flames, a lion couchant, a fish amid waves, a sea-dragon among foliage, and a radiant sun with clouds, all rendered in fine sculptural relief.

Reverse description The reverse features a full-year calendar for 1977 displayed on a central recessed tablet, with all twelve months arranged in a grid format showing days of the week. The calendar is framed by allegorical figures in relief: an elderly bearded man with a staff at left, putti at upper right and lower right, and reclining wind-blowing figures along the bottom border, with a radiant sun and clouds at upper right and a star motif at upper left. The mint mark FM appears at the lower right of the calendar field.
