Obverse description High-relief truncated bust of General Alfred Chanzy in left profile, wearing a military uniform with an ornate collar. The artists' signatures appear in the field on either side of the portrait: 'A. CROISY SCULPTEUR' to the left and 'A. BORREL GRAVEUR' to the right. The border is decorated with a continuous beaded rim.

Reverse description The reverse features a six-line dedicatory inscription in the field, divided vertically by an upright sword overlaid on a crossed bundle of oak and palm branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The dates 1870 and 1871 appear in the lower field flanking the bundle. The engraver's signature 'A. BORREL' appears in the lower left. A beaded border frames the design.
