Obverse description In the lower half of the field, three defenders in relief are depicted in the foreground: a helmeted Red Army soldier at right, a naval officer in the centre, and a worker at left, all advancing with rifles at the ready. Behind them, the outline of the Admiralty building in Leningrad rises in the background, its spire crowned with a five-pointed star. The curved legend «ЗА ОБОРОНУ ЛЕНИНГРАДА» arcs along the upper circumference.
