Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Wilhelm II in high relief, wearing a spiked Pickelhaube helmet surmounted by a Prussian eagle. The circular legend, quoting the Emperor's speech of 4 August 1914, runs around the entire field beginning at the lower left.

Reverse description A vertically placed sword divides the field, with radiating sun rays emanating from behind it in the upper portion. The date 1914 appears in the upper field flanking the blade, and a six-line inscription in two columns fills the lower field, split by the sword.
