Obverse description Two allegorical female figures representing Britannia (helmeted, wearing aegis, holding a spear) and India (crowned with a flame, holding a trident) stand together in the central field. They are flanked in the background by a lighthouse with a sailing ship to the left and a multi-tiered Hindu temple with a meditating sage to the right, along with a steam locomotive and industrial building at lower left. In the lower exergue, a decorative cartouche bears a crowned shield flanked by a horse-drawn cart and a figure ploughing with cattle, symbolising industry and agriculture.
