Obverse description Right-facing bust of William Harvey in high relief occupying the central field, with his name divided to either side — WILLIAM to the left and HARVEY to the right — flanked by his birth and death dates 1578 and 1657. The curved legend ENTDECKER DES BLUTKREISLAUFES runs along the upper rim, and the date 1628, marking the publication of his discovery of blood circulation, appears in the lower exergue.
