Obverse description Right-facing bust of William Harvey in low relief at the center of the field, with his name WILLIAM HARVEY flanking the effigy. The birth and death years 1578 and 1657 appear to either side of the bust. A curved legend ENTDECKER DES BLUTKREISLAUFES runs along the upper rim, and the date 1628 appears in the lower exergue, commemorating the publication year of his discovery.

Reverse description The reverse features the stylized logo of the German Red Cross DDR at center, depicting two human figures with outstretched arms linked together, a cross symbol above between them, all in low relief. The Meissen crossed-swords mark appears below the central device. The circular legend DEUTSCHES ROTES KREUZ runs along the upper rim, with DDR flanked by two dots at the base.
