Obverse description Left-facing veiled bust of Queen Victoria wearing a crown, set within a beaded inner border. Flanking the bust are two rectangular cartouches bearing the dates 1837 and 1897, with decorative laurel sprays. The legend arcs around the upper and lower fields, with the words QUEEN AND EMPRESS appearing in a cartouche at the base and REGISTERED noted in the lower field.

Reverse description The reverse features a central cartouche with the inscription CANADA CONGRATULATES HER QUEEN in the field. Surrounding the central text are the Royal coat of arms at the top and seven provincial coats of arms arranged around the perimeter, each labeled with the name of the respective province. Decorative foliage and scrollwork fill the remaining field.
