Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Colchester — a cross with three crowns in the upper quarters and one crown below — displayed in high relief at the centre of a decorative rose tree whose branches spread across the field, bearing large Tudor roses in full bloom, rosebuds, and foliage. The tree rises from a visible root system at the base, with two crossed stems supporting the shield.
